💸 The SPOG Contract Backpay Giveaway

With the new SPOG contract heading for a city council vote soon, we wanted to take a look at how much each cop would receive in backpay from this new contract. This vote comes as the City delays a 5% cost of living raise negotiated with city unions earlier this year.

How Backpay is Calculated

Retroactive pay is calculated based on the pay increases included in Article 6 of the proposed SPOG contract and each officer's actual gross pay from 2021-2023.

The Data

This table presents our estimated backpay for SPD sworn officers. You can sort by clicking column headers or search using the box on the right. Clicking the arrow next to an officer's name will show a breakdown of how that officer's backpay was calculated.

Caveats

The data presented above is based on data from public records requests. While we did our best to ensure the accuracy of our calculations, there are several factors that may cause these numbers to differ from actual numbers. These factors include:

  • The raises take effect several days into the beginning of each year (Jan 6 in 2021, Jan 5 in 2022, and Jan 4 in 2023), whereas our annual salary data runs from Jan 1 to Dec 31.
  • The contract includes backpay for the first 5 months of 2024. We don't have this data so we have projected wages based on ¼ of officers' 2023 pay.

That being said, we do not expect the actual numbers to differ by more than a few percent.
